Running With Asthma

Okay, I have been frustrated this week with my runs and lungs. Monday was fantastic, but the rest of the week has been disappointing. I now know why. Pollen counts are high increasing the triggers of my asthma.  I am coming to the realization that I need to stop comparing myself to other runners and that I need to train smarter meaning if I am getting winded, I need to walk for recovery and then run when I have my breathing under control. This is all so frustrating. It is as if there may never be any good weather for me to run in. I am not going to give up though. I have also learned that I need to stop worrying about my times for now and concentrate on distance. A faster pace will come with consistency. This is my way of blogging right now. I just feel the need to share. I also want others who suffer from asthma to know that it is possible to run, you just need to set different expectations for yourself and be willing to admit to yourself that you do have a medical condition that hinders your ability. It is difficult to admit this when all you want is to be in shape and also when it is only one part of your body that is refusing to work properly. My legs are fine, my feet are great, and I have the mindset, but my lungs will hold me back every now and then. I think I can live with that as long as it is only every now and then and not all the time. If you have these same issues or other issues you want to share, please do. We all struggle and we should be able to share these struggles with others and get the support we need to overcome them. Thank you to everyone who keeps up with my runs and likes my workouts and cheers me on. You will never know how much I appreciate it!
